It’s a great geographic location. The course was very relevant to our needs. Loads of fun, saw a wide range animals. And you guys are so hospitable, it felt like home!

Georgina Brown, RVC

So friendly makes you feel part of the place immediately. The most amazing setting with the mountains as a backdrop. It was really nice to get hands-on experience.

"I've come away from Whipalong with a greater understanding for the care and maintenance required when looking after horses and also the passion and love involved with running a rehabilitation centre.

I got the opportunity to work with horses, each with their own personality and with people who have a lot of experience.

A big plus is that there is NO MUCKING OUT! The knowledge and experiences that i have gained are priceless and more than anything i met some really lovely people.

The riding lessons are just an added bonus. Whipalong is definitely something i won't be forgetting for a long time.

Whipalong offers any volunteer the chance to enjoy the beauty of South Africa in a breath-taking location along with its amazing wildlife, so for anyone who has a true love for animals this is a definite must.

Just remember the more you put in the more you'll get out of the experience."

Brilliant experience! Every aspect of the program was e xtremely interesting and enjoyable and loads of fun ! . It was l ovely to see different stages of training/backing.

To future Volunteers :
Come for the month program - two weeks is too short a time to fit everything in! I had a brilliant time! Thank you

Charlotte Cockburn

Very good!! Everyone was really nice and the stables are very well run. Being able to ride twice a day on different horses and the high standard of teaching was brilliant.

Every body involved in the program was excellent, plus I really enjoyed the 'tourist experience'!

Imogen Richens

Friendly people with good knowledge of the physical and mental health of their horses. Very nice accommodation! The programme was better than I expected .

I was expecting a lot of cleaning up after the horses etc... but as that was not the case and we spent a lot of time with the horses I felt I learnt a lot and became more confident around horses and understood their behaviour more.

To future Volunteers: If you like horses and want to increase your knowledge, confidence and riding skills in beautiful surroundings - then come to Whipalong!

Katy Fillingham

Beautiful place and everyone was very friendly! It was good to experience different methods of riding and teaching.

I enjoyed riding horses which were learning how to hold themselves and noticed improvements over the two weeks. The trail rides were great. I also found it interesting to watch the vet and farrier.

Naomi Best

I feel that I learned a lot during my stay. I was given the opportunity to see and do many things. The people were very knowledgeable and helpful. I really enjoyed all the lessons. The trails were amazing too.

To future Volunteers:
I recommend they do the 4 week programme, as improvements are only starting at 2 weeks. I really enjoyed myself and I have gained a lot out of it. Thank you

I immediately fell in love with the place, the animals, the surroundings... and that hasn't changed since.

I cannot praise the project leaders highly enough for their passion and dedication in helping abused and neglected horses in becoming confident again.

Their way of working shows so much respect for the horses! I stayed for one week, but that certainly wasn't enough and I tried to pop by after that as much as possible.

Beforehand I thought I was an alright rider after years of lessons, but a 15-minute lesson by Kate was already enough to change that whole perception..... Frustrating, yet amazing to find out how much I still need to learn! Kate is very pleasant and a very good teacher and project leader.

It has been a privilege to be there! I even adopted my own big boy, a white horse named Samurai. A good excuse to come back again, don't you think?

Not to mention the stunning out-rides in the game reserve, the breathtaking view from the students' house's veranda, the laughs, the dogs, the cats, the pigs, donkey...... Yeah, I'll be back!!
